Beverley Kay Torvinen passed away on August 10th, 2023, surrounded by her family and countless friends, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Park Rapids, MN in 1953 to Virgil and Lorraine Potter, Bev was a tenacious fighter with a huge heart and an unwavering desire to help make things better wherever she saw an opportunity. At the age of 25 and before she started her own family, she happily opened her home to three children where she provided a stable, loving, and nurturing home in Menahga, MN. In 1986, she married Alan (Al) Torvinen with whom she had her own children while continuing to balance her career, supporting Alan’s business, and raising their family. Their home became a gathering place for everyone in the community and those passing through on their way north. Countless friends and family will forever remember playing cards in the garage, sharing a good meal, and listening to her legendary stories. And woven into each memory will be a fond reference to Bev’s booming laughter at the sound of a good joke. Bev was also intensely loyal. She worked for RDO in Park Rapids for more than 30 years coordinating and supervising the shipments of product to sustain factory operations while mentoring countless transportation and logistics co-workers and team members throughout her career. Bev enjoyed riding her Harley on the scenic bi-ways of northern Minnesota, traveling with her sisters to visit family, and special “road trips” with Al. She also loved to spoil her grandchildren who will forever remember baking her famous chocolate-covered rice Krispie bars, driving Grandma’s white Mustang convertible with the top down, and her “vintage” clothes collection. Bev courageously battled various forms of cancer for 30+ years, always maintaining a positive attitude that inspired everyone around her. She is survived by her husband (Alan) and her siblings (Betty, Virgil, Mike, Lorraineanne, and Mackey). She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Carol Smith and Charlotte Potter, and brothers Larry and Harold Potter. And her legacy lives on with her children (Diane [Darren] Kraabel, Tara [Jake] Lufsky, and Cary [Melanie] Torvinen) and nine beautiful grandchildren (Taylor, Allison, Kaitlyn, Zoey, Chazlynn, Kaycee, Alana, Owen, and Colson). Memorial Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, August 25, 2023 at Wevley Funeral Home in Sebeka, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date.
